Operator Scratcher – 4 positions (K4) at Kilombero Sugar

To ensure bagasse supply to the boilers is constant and sufficient throughout the shift.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• Continuously feeding of bagasse from bagasse shed to boilers.
• Look after bagasse conveying system and make sure it is in operation full time.
• Report any malfunction on the system immediately.
• Maintenance of boiler and conveyor system during breakdown and off crop and quick fixes on site when necessary.
• Inspect availability of firefighting system and test functionality as per plan in place.
• Inspect scratcher and manglers moving parts to ensure equipment is at maximum availability.
• Confirm instrument, electrical and mechanical devices interlock and are in functional state as per inspection plan.
• Maintain housekeeping by making sure no foreign matter is in bagasse shade and inline of bagasse handling system.
• Adhere so Illovo safety standards. Adhere so Illovo safety standards.

Job requirements:

• Trade test I/II in fitter mechanics or Advanced Level Certificate
• Certificate in overhead crane operation will be an added advantage.
• 2 years’ experience working in sugar mill boiler operations particularly mangler operations.
• Skills and knowledge to be able to identify, diagnose and solve equipment failure.

• Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions (Hear, see, smell, vibration) and report the occurrence.
• Understands safety and inspection requirements for lifting and crane operations.

Terms of service:  The successful candidate will be engaged on permanent contract.
