Job Description

The Teacher Intern program offers young Tanzanian adults an opportunity to gain skills and experience in education. Interns will observe and assist in the Mathematics and Individual & Societies classrooms, gaining exposure to an international school environment. They will receive training and mentorship to work with students under the guidance of lead teachers. During the internship, interns may also be required to serve as substitute/cover teachers. After completing the one-year program, interns may apply for a competitive traineeship that allows them to continue at the school while pursuing teaching qualifications at an internationally recognized institution.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating a learning environment where students can experience growth.
  • Support students on an individual and/or small group basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Ensure classroom discipline that fosters a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Maintain supervision to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist with preparation and organization of teaching materials.
  • Supervise students in and out of classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and maintain positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Participate in curriculum and staff development activities.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuous education.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Principal.

Education

  • A University degree in Education with a specialization in Mathematics and Individual & Societies.

Skills, Competencies, and Experience

  • Tanzanian Citizen, Age 23-28.
  • No criminal record.
  • Patience and empathy in dealing with students.
  • Positive and collaborative communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn teaching approaches and methods.
  • Ability to supervise students outside the classroom.
  • Experience with Google Workspace and online communication tools.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili (additional languages are a plus).
  • Interest in other cultures and diversity appreciation.

Remuneration

  • Interns will receive a monthly honorarium/stipend and health insurance.
