Job Description
Women and Youth Development Solutions (WAYDS) is a health and development organization committed to invest-in and promoting initiatives that empower and support women, youth, and children on poverty and health risks alleviation in marginalized and underserved communities in Tanzania, and it is headquartered in the Shinyanga region at Shinyanga Municipal Tanzania.
While WAYDS is a youth-led and centered for youth, is looking for a passionate and skilled young leader (aged 18-35) on the role of Communication Officer where will lead the WAYDS communication strategies, content creation, and stakeholders engagement efforts.
Role Overview
The Communication Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that enhance WAYDS’s visibility, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and promote key initiatives. The officer will work closely with internal teams, partners, and media to ensure effective messaging and branding.
Key Responsibilities
Communication Strategy & Branding
- Develop and execute a comprehensive communication and branding strategy for WAYDS
- Ensure consistency in messaging, branding, and visual identity across all communication channels.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication efforts
Content Development & Digital Media Management
- Create, edit, and publish content weekly for WAYDS’s website, social media platforms, newsletters, and reports.
- Manage social media accounts
- Design promotional materials, including brochures, infographics, and videos for WAYDS programs/mission.
Public Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with media houses, journalists, and influencers to enhance WAYDS’s public image.
- Draft press releases and media advisories monthly to increase media
- Organize and coordinate events, workshops, and campaigns annually for public engagement.
Internal Communication & Reporting
- Facilitate internal communication and knowledge-sharing among WAYDS staff and partners.
- Compile reports on communication performance
- Support teams in preparing presentations, speeches, and key messages.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in communications, media, or public relations.
- Strong knowledge of social media management, content creation, and graphic design tools.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience in working with NGOs, development agencies, or social impact organizations is an added advantage.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to create compelling content and innovative campaigns.
- Excellent communication, networking, and public speaking abilities.
- Experience with social media analytics, website management, and graphic design.
- Strong attention to detail in writing and branding.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Increase in social media followers, website traffic, and interactions across digital platforms.
- Number of published articles, social media posts, and multimedia content created monthly.
- Number of press releases published, media mentions, and partnerships with journalists.
- Attendance, reach, and impact of organized events, workshops, and awareness campaigns.
- Adherence to branding guidelines and improvement in WAYDS’s public perception.
- Submit at least 1 communications plan per year.
- Coordinate at least 2 communication campaigns per year.
- Contact beneficiaries at least once per quarter.
