Overview
Water For People Tanzania is the local arm of Water For People, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring sustainable access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Launched in late 2022, it represents the organization’s first new country program in a decade and its fourth in Africa, aligning with its ambitious 2030 goal to reach 200 million people globally with reliable WASH services.
Focus Area: Mpwapwa District, Dodoma Region
Water For People Tanzania is headquartered in Dodoma and initially concentrates its efforts in the Mpwapwa District, home to over 300,000 people. The district faces significant challenges, including:.
- Over half of its 119 public schools lack adequate water access.
- Many of the 57 registered Community-Based Water Supply Organizations struggle to cover operation and maintenance costs.
- Rural areas have improved water supply coverage below 40%.
To address these issues, Water For People employs its “Everyone Forever” model, aiming to provide lasting WASH services to every household, school, and healthcare facility in the district.
Collaborative Approach
The organization collaborates closely with local governments, communities, and partners to strengthen regional WASH planning and capacity. This approach ensures that solutions are community-driven and sustainable over the long term.
