Overview
CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education) is an international non-profit organization founded in 1993, dedicated to eradicating poverty in Africa through the education of girls and the empowerment of young women.
Mission and Vision
CAMFED’s mission is to tackle poverty, inequality, and injustice through girls’ education and women’s leadership. The organization envisions a world where every child is educated, protected, respected, and valued, growing up to turn the tide of poverty.
Programs and Impact
CAMFED operates in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, Tanzania, and Malawi, focusing on supporting marginalized girls in rural communities to attend and succeed in school. Since its inception, CAMFED has supported over 7.8 million children to go to school, including 2.4 million girls at the secondary school level.
The CAMFED Association
Graduates of CAMFED’s programs often join the CAMFED Association, Africa’s largest and fastest-growing network of young women leaders and activists for girls’ education. As of the end of 2024, the association had over 312,747 members.
Recognition and Support
CAMFED’s innovative approach has garnered international recognition, including the 2021 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize.
