Overview
The Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation (BMF) is a Tanzanian non-profit organization established in 2006 under the Trustees Incorporation Ordinance, CAP 375. Its mission is to supplement and complement the development efforts of the Government of Tanzania, focusing on improving health outcomes, strengthening health systems, and promoting universal health coverage.
BMF operates from its headquarters in Dar es Salaam and has been instrumental in various health initiatives across the country. In collaboration with partners like Irish Aid and the Ministry of Health, the foundation has trained and equipped Community Health Workers (CHWs), leading to significant increases in facility deliveries and antenatal care visits.
The foundation’s strategic business plan for 2024-2030 emphasizes strengthening systems for universal health coverage and Sustainable Development Goal targets. Additionally, BMF has recently formed a new Board of Trustees to provide strategic oversight and guidance, aiming to amplify its impact in the coming years.
