Overview
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, established in 1999 and formerly known as the BBC World Service Trust. Operating independently from the BBC’s public service broadcasting, it utilizes media and communication to address global challenges such as poverty, health crises, and human rights issues. The organization collaborates with local media and development partners in over 35 countries, reaching more than 100 million people annually.
In Tanzania, BBC Media Action has been influential in empowering youth through media. A notable example is the radio program “Niambie,” hosted by Tanzanian presenter Meena Ally. The program addresses youth issues and engages young people in development conversations.
