Overview
The Africa Social Security Association (ASSA) is a regional membership-based umbrella organization dedicated to promoting cooperation and the development of social security across Africa. Established in March 2007 as the East and Central Africa Social Security Association (ECASSA), it was rebranded to ASSA in April 2023 to reflect its expanded continental focus.

Objectives:
ASSA aims to unite formal social security institutions across Africa to share innovative experiences and best practices. The goal is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of social security service delivery and contribute to achieving social security coverage for all.
Membership:
The association comprises 19 social security institutions from eight countries, including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. ASSA provides a platform for members and policymakers to engage in social security development through policy influence, research, training, and capacity strengthening.
